Every year Canns Down Press offer a prize in conjunction with the Bankside gallery to a recently graduated or new/up and coming artist at the Original Print Exhibition. It has been a successful way of showing our support to those artists who are starting out in their field or who are simply working against the odds.
The awards are held annually at the Bankside Gallery. Click here to be directed to the Bankside Gallery for more information on these artists.
2016 – Dawson Murray, Silent Garden Edge. Etching
This vibrant piece was chosen not only for it’s wonderful etherial feel and skill, but also because Dawson Murray has only been producing etchings in the past few years and suffers from multiple sclerosis. His wife assists him with his work along with an eye tracking device. He is based in Scotland.
2015 – Fouzia Zafar, Tea Circles. Etching
Fouzia was early in her career when this prize was chosen.
The playfulness of her work along with the everyday subject matter of a table laid for tea made for a very charming image. She graduated in London in 2013.
2014 – Flora McLachlan, deer. Etching
Flora’s work is a wonderful magical scene which draws the viewer in with her beautiful style and animals in the centre of the piece. A well deserved winner who is heading to big things.
